How to Make SOFT & DELICIOUS NONNA’S POUND CAKE (With Video Recipe)

Pound cake is a cake of English origins similar to the more famous plumcake, although softer and more buttery.

The origins of this cake date back to England in the 1700’s and its name – literally “pound cake” – tells about the method used to weigh the ingredients.

Preparing pound cake is really easy: few ingredients are enough to bring to the table a soft and delicious cake, perfect for homemade breakfasts or for alternative snacks maybe covered with jams and delicious creams.

Yields: 16 slices

  • 1,5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup  solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1  2/3  cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract or flavoring
  • 1 tsp. lemon extract or flavoring

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a large tube pan.

Cream sugar, crisco and butter together until fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time to above mixture and beat well after each addition.

Alternately, mix in the flour, milk and flavorings until completely mixed.

Pour batter in prepared pan and bake in preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Let cake cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
